Speaker, Environment – Maria
Ron Long is confirmed for October, he will speak about Flowers of Western Australia. $150.00. He will come at 6 to set up.
Lynn Valley Garden club is bringing in Brian Minter and charging $15 to guests. He was a speaker for us about 15 years ago. Some clubs charge guests when they bring in a more expensive speakers which we could consider in the future as all the speaker costs are increasing.
Sunshine:
Card to the Templetons. No one aware of any other sunshine cards needed.
Fall Harvest Fair
Thank you note received from Donna Lawson, one of the FHF judges.
Lucette will send a summary of entries to be posted on the member section on the website. 276 entries, 331 last year, 226 2 years ago. 42 categories with nothing in them.
After setting up people are exhausted. Martine, Greg and Lucette have the majority of the entries. Greg made three trips in with entries. There is a lot of work for one weekend, we need to chat about whether we need to continue. Very little in baking and canning. Some people are feeling obligated to enter everything and under pressure and perhaps people should just put in what they enjoy entering. Issues around perfection, perhaps have a category for less-than-ideal entries. Look at uniformity in judging the baking and see if we can dispense with multiples due to food waste. Judges can be guided by the chief judge to be less critical due to the weather etc. Less than 120 – 130 people (not from the club) attended. Parking is an issue. Syl suggests this be brought up at the general November meeting to have that discussion and Lucette will lead that discussion. There were fewer prizes for the raffle.
Mim brought 5 containers of baking in for the bake sale.
Old Business:
Pot Luck
Lily will be organizing it. Syl will obtain a ham and charge back to the club. Voted. approved with one dissent. Lucette is chairing, Lily will ask about the prayer.
BC Council of Garden Clubs
Fall meeting is October 26th. Sofia and Martine to go.
New Business:
November meeting
Newsletter will give a reminder about pictures for the November garden tour going to Lucette. She has lots from Greg.
Christmas Party
Ticket prices are members $38, guests $45 and will be available at the October meeting.
