Minutes

Called to order at 7:02 by Syl. Betty, Lucette, Vince, Elizabeth, Maria, Sofia and Dan logged on to zoom.

Treasurer Report: Elizabeth

Treasurers report by email. The balance is over $10,000.00 again since before COVID. Plant sale a great success.

Fall Harvest Fair: Lucette and Dan

Lorna will be meeting with the fuchsia group tomorrow to determine their participation in the Fall Harvest Fair. Lucette is expecting an email tomorrow. Three more participants for the potato contest have been to Dan’s to get potatoes. Lucette has 2 dahlias left. Syl suggests that the committee ask Sophia to put the fair on social media.

Membership: Syl

38 memberships, $650, 100% by email. There was some interest in the club at Burnaby Blooms.

Bonsor Liaison: Syl

Syl will need to send floor plan for the fall fair once the space for the fuchsias are confirmed.

Newsletter: Vince

Action item: Sofia will put something in the bulletin about her unusual cabbage. Deadline May 25th. Syl is going to look to see if there is a contest for ‘best’ newsletter.

Speakers: Maria

Panel discussion at last meeting was successful. Bee people are coming next month. Speakers are booked for the remainder of the year. BRAGS and SBGC will invite to each other’s meetings when interesting speakers come up.

Sunshine

Lesli McBratney has been away. Action item: Syl will contact Greg for a card.

Standing Items:

Environment and Climate Change

Action Item: Maria will follow up with Leslie Roach regarding an oasis replacement.

2022 Year of the Garden

Lucette is going to put a note in the newsletter about registering your garden for Year of the Garden.

Old Business:

Garden tour

Denman Island has limited accommodation that is reasonably priced and not yet booked.

New Business:

Website

Southburnabygardenclub.ca has come up for domain renewal. Committee agreed to renew for 3 years. Action Item: Frank will renew.

Plant Sales at the meeting

Action Item: Betty will write up for the newsletter.  Suggested donation and honour box that Elizabeth will clear at the end of the evening.

Refreshments

Lucette will write up a request for a kitchen volunteer in the newsletter. If someone volunteers we will restart refreshments. Possibly tea only. Bring your own mug

Streptocarpus

Elaine and Elsie have offered streptocarpus for the July meeting for people to bring back perhaps at the   October meeting for a popular vote.

Mulberry Tour

Lucette will contact the Mulberry for a tour and she will put a ‘save the date’ note in the newsletter.
