Minutes
Called to order at 7:00 by Elizabeth. Lucette. Syl, Elizabeth, Maria and Vince Regrets from Sofia.
Treasurer Report: Elizabeth
Treasurer’s report will be attached to the minutes in the ‘red book’. Syl has the receipt from Bonsor. We will be doing the 50/50 with toonies and loonies. We have 74 books of raffle tickets for the Fall Harvest Fair: 21 books were sold, 5 taken to sell and 48 books left to sell.
Secretary
No report
Speakers: Maria
Maria is waiting for confirmation from the Earthwise Society as the speaker for the August meeting. Lucette can do a presentation if Maria is unable to confirm.
Membership/ Bonsor: Syl
Report will be attached to the minutes in the ‘red’ book. No one new since last report. Three visitors at the last meeting and all younger than most of us.
Sunshine
Syl visited with the Rutherfords and took them a card. Syl also visited the Koziers.
Newsletter: Vince
Due date is July 19th. Maria requested an extension to confirm the speaker and has talked to a couple of people about the environmental column. The September/October issue will be combined.
Fall Harvest Fair: Lucette and Dan
Lucette sent a story to the Burnaby Now and has had a response that they will get back to us. Lucette will be looking at further advertising. Posters will be available at the August meeting . The mayor will be presenting the trophies.
Maria will be posting on the Burnaby Beacon enews letter.
Action item: Lucette will ask for volunteers especially for runners and set up at the next meeting
We will judge the petunias in unusual containers at the August meeting. We will be judging the Streptocarpus brought in by Elaine at the last meeting at the November meeting.
Standing Items:
Environment and Climate Change
Maria is working on it the column for the next newsletter.
2022 Year of the Garden
The Red Petunias will be judged by popular choice at the August meeting.
Old Business:
Mulberry Tour
11 people going on July 20th at 12, lunch at 1230 and then a tour.
Picnic
July 24th at Martine and Charly’s. Syl will be going at 11 to assist with set up. Looking for people to bring dessert.
Refreshments
Refreshments went well at the last meeting. No one had tea, instant coffee was available. No one has signed up for August.
Action Items: Carolee will be there for August. Betty will bring some goodies. Syl will bring goodies. Lucette will help in the kitchen.
Plant Sales at the meeting
Continue as long as people are bringing plants in, keeping it low key.
New Business
October Potluck
Action Item: Elizabeth will ask at the August meeting to see if people are comfortable doing a potluck.
Schedule
Next steering committee is August 9th. Betty will be away.
Action Items: Lucette will take minutes. Betty will ask Sofia if she can set up zoom. Lucette to chair. September meeting will be via email week of September 20th.
Christmas Party
Action Item: Elizabeth will ask if there is interest in doing a catered Christmas Party, or should we consider going to a restaurant for lunch +/- having a party at the usual meeting time. Ray (a guest at the last meeting) is a magician and Syl approached him about entertaining at the Christmas Party.
Action Item: Betty will reach out to Sugar Mountain catering to see if they are available, but caterers are very busy right now.
