Treasurer Report Elizabeth

A copy of the treasurer’s report is in the ‘red’ book. Syl and Sofia will review the books and they are ready for review.

Sofia has to complete the application form to Bonsor by March 1st

Secretary: Betty 

Betty to complete society act renewal this week. She needs to check with Dina as to whether or not she wants to still be a director at large. Lots of correspondence has been received regarding various garden tours and events. Betty will bring copies to the meeting.

Membership: Syl

No change. 54 paid memberships, $1150 income total people 70. 

Newsletter editor: Lorna

Betty to do opening statement and showbench. Syl will write something up for Bob Rutherford. No service, scattering of ashes TBD. 50/50 winners are in. Lucette to do a note about plant sale.  Betty to write note about speaking.

New Business

Plant Sale: Lucette

May 2nd confirmed with the church. Tents from Sofia, Frank. The church is going to do their basement sale, hotdogs etc.

Square to be purchased by then. Sofia is kindly using her spare phone and will load with the app. Cashier will have that. Sofia will purchase and download and get together will Lucette to confirm details. Lucette will be in touch with Charmaine for details and Martine re volunteer sheets.

Lucette will reach out to the Sharpening company who advertised in the Bulletin to have them in the parking lot and find out what the costs are, as well as how much the club would receive. If we do have them info needs to be added to the publicity. Syl to do worm castings again. 

125th Anniversary Celebration Committee: Syl

Saturday May 16 2026 suggested as best date

The bench at Bonsor would cost between $600 and $1000. The committee is considering a recipe book or a tree planting as an alternative way to commemorate. Lucette spoke to a planner for parks rec and culture and will forward the contact info to Syl.? 

Picnic and garden tours.

Betty will ask for volunteers at the meeting. Betty will ask Elly if she wants to open her garden.

Projector: Betty

Sofia has a donated computer which she will be able to provide to us as our old computer will not be compatible with the new projector. Lucette to store the projector at her house.

As I write this, we are still in for an early spring but we had a warning here with a skiff of snow when we just started to get cocky!

There is lots to do in the garden, particularly on sunny days. Pruning and caring for fruit trees right now is a priority in many of our gardens. I am having great fun taking cuttings of fuchsias that I over wintered in my garage and rooting them in little peat squares. So far with 100% success – I hope I didn’t just jinx it.

We will have our first showbench of the year at this meeting and I hope everyone can bring a little something in. Remember that we have that lovely catch-all category of ‘anything not listed’ above’ for your little treasures. This is a great time to give your indoor plants
