August 8 to 15, 2022
Minutes
Treasurer Report: Elizabeth
Treasurer’s report will be attached to the minutes in the ‘red book’.
Update on FHF Draw Tickets: 32 books have been sold ($320.00 collected) 5 books taken, not paid for 37 books left to sell at 2022 Fall Harvest Fair
Secretary: Betty
No report
Speakers: Maria
Betty suggested that we consider having a speaker at the November meeting as we have missed two speakers this year due to them having COVID. Maria supports this as education is a key in attracting young gardeners. It is too bad that we lost two speaker engagements to Covid, though substitutions have been great.
Maria can reach out to either to Matt ($100.00) or Marilyn Walt ($200.00). Maria is planning to invite Matt to fall fair and ask him to enter some of his vegetables. Lucette suggested Marilyn Holt.
With young people in mind should we still offer slide show of garden tours in October.
Membership/ Bonsor: Syl
Updated membership list circulated to committee. In regard to Fall Harvest Fair Syl talked to Bonsor today regarding the news that we will not be able to use the display case this year.
Syl now understands as next week they will remove the existing display cases and apparently it will take 12 weeks to receive the replacement glass for the new cases. Syl asked if we could use the tall board that is used for Bonsor news but it is used on the plain side for picture taking of new members so that will not work. She did get permission to have posters displayed in the seniors centre at the Bonsor so Lucette will need to give those to Syl 1 week to 10 days before the event that would help.
Syl also asked if we would still be able to have the moving sign on outdoor grounds announce our fair. Yes it is controlled from another department but Lucette sends Syl wording required they will try to accommodate that request.

Fall Harvest Fair: Lucette and Dan
For Fall Harvest Fair, we do have a few empty sign up spaces. Lucette has asked Syl to be the master of ceremonies again on Sunday. We still need some folks for:
- no one signed up to meet at Dan’s for pick up and then drop off
- set up Friday we have Betty, Lucette, Charmaine, Maria, Mel, Cora, Lorna Gross. I think that will work, although we probably could use one or two more
- Saturday, we have 6 runners, pricing for goods, and 1 person for each time slot for goodies sellers and refreshments in kitchen. We’re missing someone to sell tickets at the door from 1-3
- Sunday we have no one in the kitchen and we’re missing sellers for baked goods. We need to find someone to do both.
- Sunday clean up we have Lucette, Betty, Charmaine, and Maria. We could have 1-2 others. Most folks are there at this time for potato and prize draws so I’m pretty sure we’ll have lots of help for this part.
- a volunteer is needed to order and pick up the judge’s luncheon on Saturday. We will go back to Kea’s this year as there were concerns the last 2 years about Save on sandwich trays.
Sofia will be helping at Dan’s and baking on Sunday, Syl will sell tickets on Saturday and do clean up on Sunday. Lucette will be giving the volunteer sheets back to Martine and Charly to fill in the last few holes.
Lucette has confirmation from Lee Valley and Stellar Wholesale for prizes, more to come.

Planning for future meetings:
October
We decided that for October’s meeting we will make it a Halloween themed meeting with everyone asked to dress up. We will also ask folks to bring in nibblies that are Halloween themed. They could be veges, desserts or savory. Vince does not feel his Edgar Allan Poe “The Raven” would suit the evening.
November
November is election month, and we can also do the Garden Tour of Pender Island and Betty’s Maritimes photos. However, we may consider a guest speaker as we missed two speakers in 2022
December
December is not fully decided yet. Action item; Betty will investigate if the caterer we used last time is available and the cost. We can then decide if we do that, or go for a pot luck meal at Bonsor (more space less opportunity to spread viruses). We decided that doing it at Martine’s would be too close contact, as would happen in a restaurant.

Lucette will represent the club at the fall meeting. Who would like to accompany her? Elizabeth needs to know so that she can send in the registration form and cheque.
