South Burnaby Garden Club Executive Virtual Meeting via Zoom

Minutes
Present: Maria, Syl, Elizabeth, Vince, Sofia, Betty, Dina, Lucette, Dan
Called to order at 7:01 by Lucette
Treasurer Report: Elizabeth
A copy of the reports will go in the ‘red’ book. Floats for the FHF unchanged from last year.
Secretary: Betty
Greg has the trophy information for the FHF and the silver polish!
Membership: Syl
No new memberships since last month, totals unchanged.
Bonsor Liaison: Dina
Martine is going in on August 26th and set up the FHF display in the display case at Bonsor. Dina has been in contact about the FHF and potluck and confirmed
Newsletter: Vince
- Deadline is August 21st.
Speaker, Environment – Maria
- October: Ron Long is confirmed. $100, double check with topic. We need to make sure there is enough time for people to socialize as well as hear the presentation.
- Lucette will talk to Lily about the potluck. She has the membership list.
Sunshine: Rose
Joe Balago is seriously ill. Betty will send a card.
Fall Harvest Fair: Lucette and Dan
We have a pallet of Sea Soil (65 bags) coming as a prize donation. Dina is having it delivered to a commercial address and confirming what distribution will be from there. She will make up coupons for the winners to claim their bags. Lucette and Dina will discuss the plans further. Consider having an early bird draw for some of the sea soil.
We still need some volunteers:
- Support for Sam in kitchen poss Tish (Carolee helping 1-3 Sat. but no one on Sunday)
- Have enough people for set up.
- Clean up – Sofia, Syl and most people are already there.
- Not a lot for donations of baking etc. but everyone brings things in anyway.
Lucette to talk to Conway, and awaiting info from councilors. Lucette needs a list of prizes from Dina. Charly is picking up the judges’ luncheon, croissants from Costco. Greg’s brother in law is seriously ill and he may not be able to be at the FHF. Syl can assist if needed. Dina will ask Lily if she will pick up the Sun Yat Sen admission certificates.

Garden Tours
Thank you to Tish for a lovely tour of her yard. Betty will write up for the next newsletter with photos.
Pot Luck
Sofia will be away. Lily volunteered to organize it
BC Council of Garden Clubs
Fall meeting is October 26th. Sofia and Martine to go. Elizabeth will register.
Volunteer Recognition
City of Burnaby Volunteer Event September 20th 6 to 9 pm Samantha and her plus one will be asked to go to represent the club. Lily and Charmaine as a plan B.
New Business:
November meeting
Newsletter will give a reminder about pictures for the November garden tour going to Lucette
Guest speakers
When guest speaker selling, will not spell until we broke. Jennifer was interrupted and we need remind people of the parameters. Consider having the person sell first, and then the showbench.
