2024 membership fees $835 paid to date for a total of 62 people Syl has transferred anyone not paid to another data base so only paid or life/honorary members will continue to receive newsletter.

Syl has cash and cheques from the April meeting and will deliver to Elizabeth.

Bonsor Liaison:  Dina

Do we pay Bonsor for the Projector last month? I think Glenn indicated he was closing his eyes re usage

For now we will keep purchasing a projector on hold. Dina to put in a formal request for the microphone to be checked.

Newsletter: Vince

Speaker, Environment – Maria

Maria considering an article on protecting the soil. The executive is asked to contribute an article. Lucette will be growing a ‘dead man’s finger’ and will report on it. Speakers can be very costly.

May – Our own panel (Dan, Betty, ? Greg, Syl on pots,) Maria to ask Lily. Dina will invite her dad.

June- Deb Jones on Rain Gardens 

July/August – maybe the Kelp man, person speaking on medicinal plants? Martine on Plants in Cuba.

Fall Harvest Fair: Lucette-

  • Samantha has agreed to lead the kitchen.
  • Lucette Updated the schedule, yams have been added, colour orange has been added throughout, a section has been added for small pumpkins.
  • Betty and Dan will bring remaining dahlias and potatoes to the May meeting.
  • Lucette will send schedule to Frank for posting on the website.
  • Sofia is going to get some fabric for the head tables when she is in Indonesia.

Plant Sale: May 4

  • Charmaine has flyer and bookmarks
  • Syl will donate three bags of worm castings and divide into 2 liter bags to sell for $12.

Syl and Charmaine have a date for separating the worm casings into 2 litre bags. Syl has the largest zip lock bags for this. Syl checked out Wing Wong and they are selling same size for $16 if memory serves

  • Frank has added flyer to website and included in BCCGC website. Betty sent information into Minter for his column and it appeared in April 6 annual Plants and garden sales news Vancouver Sun
  • Betty to send info about plant sale to CBC
  • Sofia to send info to Burnaby Now

Old Business:

AGM- Financials to be reviewed by Syl and Sofia later

New Business:

Bulletins: The bulletins are going to be posted on the members only page for one year, and then we will reassess whether people are looking at them. Betty will let Frank know.

Cups at the meetings:

Samantha has suggested encourage people to bring their own mugs and asked if they could get one free 50/50 ticket if they do that. We will try it at the May meeting. Lucette will put a note in the newsletter.

Betty- Show bench pictures

Vince crops the pictures so that they look the best for the newsletter. Last month Vince put all of the pictures Greg took in the newsletter but when the showbenches get bigger later in the year Vince may highlight only the best photos in the newsletter. Frank will put the photos back on the website on the public side. Betty will ask Greg to send the photos to both Vince and Frank. We will reassess in one year.

Garden Tours: 

The tour today at Louise’s was well attended.  Any other volunteers? Syl will ask at the meeting

Nursery tour to Langley on April 26th. 4 people are signed up.

Greg will open his garden when his tree peony opens up. He will notify Lucette when it is time.  

BC Council of Garden Clubs

Martine had prizes, lightly used items for the draw. No cost to the club.
